Computer Games for the blind.
I have always been a fan of computer games and how it stimulates our imagination.
it's a time where I can relive the battles in ww2 or fell for myself how it's like to be under the sea exploring a new world much different from ours. the feeling to escape into the surprising and unknown world is a feeling I love about computer games.
(besides winning every multilayer round while playing with friends making them jealous and calling them a "noob")
I love games for it's world design and I'm getting more and more into the storytelling of it.
it's like a movie experience, but you're in it and your decisions makes a difference.
(you won't be shouting at the main character not to go into the door of the haunted house like you always do in the cinema, only to come to a stop after I splash my $5 coke on you.)
It has always come to my wonder if i could bring my experience to the people I know. (who are also visually impaired)
I never forget the day I watched my friend playing tank on a mobile phone. (the classic).
he couldn't see, but seemed entertained by the sound and noise it makes. he was 16 then.
audio Games http://www.audiogames.net/listgames.php
I came across this site the other day through the magic of the Internet. it's a site about games made for the blind, some are even made by the blind.
I tried a few and so far my favourite is "decent into darkness" and nice horror adventure game with a scary atmosphere and a good story.
I encourage you to try it; Turn off our monitor, blindfold yourself, get a headphone and game on.
I'm recommending it to my all me visually impaired friends.

So how's that CV of yours doing?
For some.... or many, writing A CV or resume can be a intimidating job. or maybe it's just me.
but in any case I have discovered that many resumes that we write has a tiny problem.
Problem being that our resumes are like flyer's passed out and be thrown away because it does not suite the taste of the audience.
Modifying your resume or CV to suite each particular company's taste can actually improve your odds to actually get that million dollar rupiah job that you wanted. the keyword is to fine tune.
so here's a list of easy steps of how I do it.
disclaimer: following these steps does not guarantee you to get that job you want. theverveoflife shall not be held responsible should any occurrence of intentional or unintentional failure in your life cause by the act of following this article of suggestion. but should any of you succeed, don't forget me.
step1: spitting it out
If you don't know how to start writing your resume and Ms word does not have the template for you. Start by spilling it all out on a piece of paper. put it to categories. education activities, skills. put everything that you think is worthy to put out.
now that you have your draft, you can start organizing them. into a proper resume.
you can find samples of resumes just by goggling for them in the image section.
the format comes in many different forms and there's no right way to write it. you are to choose which is the most systematic way to organize your information. be free and modify the format if you like. put everything inside and don't give a bother about how long it is.
We will clean it up later.
Note: if everything you have written down about yourself fits into a small sticky 2' x2' note paper. then you can ignore this blog post and go waste your time on something else.
step2: Scope in the target
Now you need to find the companies that you are looking for. list them down and compile their addresses, website, position available, state if they are currently advertising position in one document.
know what they are looking for and what they require
step3: Google it
Many would skip this. it's not very important but it does help measure up the odds. you are too find some information about the company. know it's background and try to know what the company really need. you may just find the reason why the company would want to hire someone like you.
(to be frank I didn't do this part)
step4: pick and choose
Now that you have the information from step 2 and 3, you can start fine tuning your resume for each company. certain companies wants your expected salary to be stated. ( I personally put negotiable).
you need to know that you are to try to fit the appropriate information onto one piece of paper. because once the employer reaches page 3 they are most probably not interested anymore. and you have 2 pages already. one for your cover letter and the other for your CV. unless you find it necessary, try to keep it to ONE(1) page.
now writing cover letters has the art in it. you are to write it briefly with active sentence, one thing I discovered is this. don't write this.
" I would like to apply for the "work my butt off executive" as advertised in the star classifieds Monday 29 February 2004"
they are not at all interested to know how you know that they need recruitment. it's better to let them believe that you are psychic.
Google up "cover letter" you'll find huge amount of info there.
step5: Oh yes wait a minute Mr postman!
last check.
example: if it's a design company, put all your experiences and achievements in design as a priority. If it's a sales company do it otherwise. it's basically as simple as that.
god knows why I wrote such a long post revolving around this simple issue.
I myself didn't send any portfolio. in fact I stupidly went to my first interview without one. but sending portfolio through email is impossible. I would make my own site or blog and put them there. Or I would only bring it to the interview.
you can print out your portfolio. but it would be the best to have them on a CD. according to my lecturer.
learned it the hard way.... very hard way.

what have I been up to?
there have been a lot and not much going on these days/weeks. and mainly I just don't feel like putting it up.
but looking back at why I wanted to blog in the first place I guess I should continue and put it up even though I don't feel like it.
I have been hunting for jobs mainly things that has to do with my field. (advertising). I have to say that looking for a job by skipping the internship stage is definitely not easy. most copywriters requires at least 1 year experience. and that don't really guarantee you a position.
I went for a part time job with Samsung which I was suppose to be working on yesterday but due to some miss happenings It's been delayed. I'm getting sick with the delays most probably I'm just going to dump that and move on.
tomorrow I mean today, I will be going to a interview for a job or internship with a production house. wish me the best.
tomorrow. I mean later today I'll post up a few links for tips to write a good resume and how should a cover letter be written. I find most Internet instructions and help do not really answer my questions. therefore I decided to answer them myself.

the Internet has evolved from simple HTML webpages to a realm of social interaction.
twitter is one of them that sparked a change in how we interact with people.

it's a service that's lets you update all the details and little things you do in your daily life to the public/community/friends. letting your them know more about you and what you are doing.
it's like a blog only simpler and also lets you check on what your friends are doing currently.

Well....... don't post that up then, Mr crappy pants!

graduated then what?
Many of you would know that I am of 90% sure to continue to take on advance diploma and take my degree abroad in UK. (Ulu Klang....... DUh!??)
and as many times in my life where the smaller odds always win. I'm not going to continue anymore.
that's right kids.... I mean friends I"m heading my way to work for a year.
A few reasons why, and why I think some of you should try the same.
1. I'm broked. totally. (loan issue on one side) My brother is being a part of the college life soon. and I'm (me and my family) are totally broked. I can't be too selfish and I should give a hand into the economic cycle.
2. My choices are limited to
a)Tarc to UK. the most probable choice.
b) another private college: too expensive and filled with snobbish rich ungrateful, immature kids who acts like a 5yr old.
c) Goverment Uni. almost impossible. and I would never want to learn "Komunikasi Massa: periklanan" if you get what I mean.
d) get a scholarship: We all know the chances of that don't we? I ain't a bright student. but I work hard..... well not really.
3. Working gives me exposure therefore enhances my learning experience when I decide to come back to study. to me it's not about getting the papers as quick as possible. but the quality of learning in school. getting a masters degree when you know nothing is just stupid.
4. I could get myself. some connections. either through business networks like BNI (business Network International) which my dad is apart of. these connections could bring me some place else New Zealand perhaps. or maybe Japan.
5. I a person who loves to learn. and it's all about learning and discovering. and I would love and be so glad to come back to the realm of education. I don't think I will be reluctant to go back to education by all means.
Bonus!
6. I want to come back a more mature person in education.
as much as I looked convinced about the choice, I'm definitely not. besides the fact that I lack confidence in almost everything, moving on to the industry is a scary thing. It's uncomfortable and it brings a sense of hesitant and doubt.
I would love to hear from you all friends. convince me to stay. and tell me if my choice is wrong. or tell me about the opportunities I should grab when I go out to work. I need feedback and these feedback will be my light in the future.
take the right route
Jaziel
