The Shit Box

So, You share a rented house with 8 other people and you share one bathroom. Not much of an exaggeration when you see houses in TBR look like animal penthouses.

You wake up in the morning with a huge stomach emergency running to the toilet only to find out. someone beat you to it. sitting inside there with a few magazines, a DVD player, PS3 and a tent.
and oh a sleeping bag.

introducing the shit box.
http://www.thebrowncorporation.com/

put a bag in it, do in it and put it under your Housemates sleeping bag.

it's actually meant for camping.
jaziel

ps: talking about camping, there's a absolutely amazing camp coming up this 22nd September. in port Dickson. from the 22nd to the 25th this september, organized by TARC christian fellowship,

Imagine 4 days of fun, meeting people, and relaxation.

Find me if you are interested. expecially those friends of mine who I have not seen in millenniums.

Stop Motion

Perhaps these work of art and Prolonged patience may interest you. it certainly interest me lots.

Stop motion is an animation technique to make a physically manipulated object appear to move on its own. The object is moved by small amounts between individually photographed frames, creating the illusion of movement when the series of frames are played as a continuous sequence

enough quoting from the wikipedia page. let's watch some stop great stop motion.

Fun spaghetti
a Superb and Wowfull stop motion video.

Dirty Couches
A very creatively done yet funny work. I liked it a lot for not the wrong reasons.

Pancakes 2: the ultimate sequel
a very popular work. perhaps more popular than it deserves. still pretty good though.

The original human tetris
Nominated as the most creative video on youtube awards 2007. the video that had me picking up my jaw from the floor.

just like call of duty 4

How we met
A great and rare technique of stop motion. of drawing and redrawing....... frame by frame.

hope this opens your mind to a whole new world of animation and motion design.
it's truly amazing isn't it?

just another great photograph

It's often hard to describe what photography is about and get them to admire and appreciate it.
a medium with hints of messages to tell. it just told another message.

I'm sure you know who they are. if you don't I feel sorry for you. perhaps you should stop spending all your time on MTVs, Animes, and playing DotA.

the world at night

the great philosophers once said that....

"the darkness conveys beauty that an ungrateful eye can never see"

well actually, I said that. but that's not my point.

I remembered a time I once laid down by a beach through the night looking at the stars, having a whole pot of "cold" coffee, whislt the sounds of the waves swifting in my ears, chatting and whispering with a (guyandnoit'snotgay) friend, somewhere in the border between Pahang and Johor. It was one of the most beautiful moment I ever had in my life.

I found photography project group that goes around the world to shoot pictures of the world we see at night.

The world at Night (TWAN)

I encourage you to browse around, see and admire the pictures.
Truly there's more to our world than meets the ungrateful eye.

Computer Games for the blind.

I have always been a fan of computer games and how it stimulates our imagination.
it's a time where I can relive the battles in ww2 or fell for myself how it's like to be under the sea exploring a new world much different from ours. the feeling to escape into the surprising and unknown world is a feeling I love about computer games.
(besides winning every multilayer round while playing with friends making them jealous and calling them a "noob")

I love games for it's world design and I'm getting more and more into the storytelling of it.
it's like a movie experience, but you're in it and your decisions makes a difference.
(you won't be shouting at the main character not to go into the door of the haunted house like you always do in the cinema, only to come to a stop after I splash my $5 coke on you.)

It has always come to my wonder if i could bring my experience to the people I know. (who are also visually impaired)
I never forget the day I watched my friend playing tank on a mobile phone. (the classic).
he couldn't see, but seemed entertained by the sound and noise it makes. he was 16 then.

audio Games http://www.audiogames.net/listgames.php
I came across this site the other day through the magic of the Internet. it's a site about games made for the blind, some are even made by the blind.
I tried a few and so far my favourite is "decent into darkness" and nice horror adventure game with a scary atmosphere and a good story.

I encourage you to try it; Turn off our monitor, blindfold yourself, get a headphone and game on.
I'm recommending it to my all me visually impaired friends.

So how's that CV of yours doing?

For some.... or many, writing A CV or resume can be a intimidating job. or maybe it's just me.

but in any case I have discovered that many resumes that we write has a tiny problem.
Problem being that our resumes are like flyer's passed out and be thrown away because it does not suite the taste of the audience.

Modifying your resume or CV to suite each particular company's taste can actually improve your odds to actually get that million dollar rupiah job that you wanted. the keyword is to fine tune.

so here's a list of easy steps of how I do it.

disclaimer: following these steps does not guarantee you to get that job you want. theverveoflife shall not be held responsible should any occurrence of intentional or unintentional failure in your life cause by the act of following this article of suggestion. but should any of you succeed, don't forget me.

step1: spitting it out
If you don't know how to start writing your resume and Ms word does not have the template for you. Start by spilling it all out on a piece of paper. put it to categories. education activities, skills. put everything that you think is worthy to put out.
now that you have your draft, you can start organizing them. into a proper resume.

you can find samples of resumes just by goggling for them in the image section.
the format comes in many different forms and there's no right way to write it. you are to choose which is the most systematic way to organize your information. be free and modify the format if you like. put everything inside and don't give a bother about how long it is.

We will clean it up later.

Note: if everything you have written down about yourself fits into a small sticky 2' x2' note paper. then you can ignore this blog post and go waste your time on something else.

step2: Scope in the target
Now you need to find the companies that you are looking for. list them down and compile their addresses, website, position available, state if they are currently advertising position in one document.
know what they are looking for and what they require

step3: Google it
Many would skip this. it's not very important but it does help measure up the odds. you are too find some information about the company. know it's background and try to know what the company really need. you may just find the reason why the company would want to hire someone like you.
(to be frank I didn't do this part)

step4: pick and choose
Now that you have the information from step 2 and 3, you can start fine tuning your resume for each company. certain companies wants your expected salary to be stated. ( I personally put negotiable).
you need to know that you are to try to fit the appropriate information onto one piece of paper. because once the employer reaches page 3 they are most probably not interested anymore. and you have 2 pages already. one for your cover letter and the other for your CV. unless you find it necessary, try to keep it to ONE(1) page.

now writing cover letters has the art in it. you are to write it briefly with active sentence, one thing I discovered is this. don't write this.
" I would like to apply for the "work my butt off executive" as advertised in the star classifieds Monday 29 February 2004"
they are not at all interested to know how you know that they need recruitment. it's better to let them believe that you are psychic.

Google up "cover letter" you'll find huge amount of info there.

step5: Oh yes wait a minute Mr postman!
last check.
example: if it's a design company, put all your experiences and achievements in design as a priority. If it's a sales company do it otherwise. it's basically as simple as that.
god knows why I wrote such a long post revolving around this simple issue.

I myself didn't send any portfolio. in fact I stupidly went to my first interview without one. but sending portfolio through email is impossible. I would make my own site or blog and put them there. Or I would only bring it to the interview.

you can print out your portfolio. but it would be the best to have them on a CD. according to my lecturer.

learned it the hard way.... very hard way.

what have I been up to?

there have been a lot and not much going on these days/weeks. and mainly I just don't feel like putting it up.

but looking back at why I wanted to blog in the first place I guess I should continue and put it up even though I don't feel like it.

I have been hunting for jobs mainly things that has to do with my field. (advertising). I have to say that looking for a job by skipping the internship stage is definitely not easy. most copywriters requires at least 1 year experience. and that don't really guarantee you a position.

I went for a part time job with Samsung which I was suppose to be working on yesterday but due to some miss happenings It's been delayed. I'm getting sick with the delays most probably I'm just going to dump that and move on.

tomorrow I mean today, I will be going to a interview for a job or internship with a production house. wish me the best.

tomorrow. I mean later today I'll post up a few links for tips to write a good resume and how should a cover letter be written. I find most Internet instructions and help do not really answer my questions. therefore I decided to answer them myself.

graduated then what?

Many of you would know that I am of 90% sure to continue to take on advance diploma and take my degree abroad in UK. (Ulu Klang....... DUh!??)

and as many times in my life where the smaller odds always win. I'm not going to continue anymore.

that's right kids.... I mean friends I"m heading my way to work for a year.

A few reasons why, and why I think some of you should try the same.

1. I'm broked. totally. (loan issue on one side) My brother is being a part of the college life soon. and I'm (me and my family) are totally broked. I can't be too selfish and I should give a hand into the economic cycle.

2. My choices are limited to
a)Tarc to UK. the most probable choice.
b) another private college: too expensive and filled with snobbish rich ungrateful, immature kids who acts like a 5yr old.
c) Goverment Uni. almost impossible. and I would never want to learn "Komunikasi Massa: periklanan" if you get what I mean.
d) get a scholarship: We all know the chances of that don't we? I ain't a bright student. but I work hard..... well not really.

3. Working gives me exposure therefore enhances my learning experience when I decide to come back to study. to me it's not about getting the papers as quick as possible. but the quality of learning in school. getting a masters degree when you know nothing is just stupid.

4. I could get myself. some connections. either through business networks like BNI (business Network International) which my dad is apart of. these connections could bring me some place else New Zealand perhaps. or maybe Japan.

5. I a person who loves to learn. and it's all about learning and discovering. and I would love and be so glad to come back to the realm of education. I don't think I will be reluctant to go back to education by all means.

Bonus!
6. I want to come back a more mature person in education.

as much as I looked convinced about the choice, I'm definitely not. besides the fact that I lack confidence in almost everything, moving on to the industry is a scary thing. It's uncomfortable and it brings a sense of hesitant and doubt.

I would love to hear from you all friends. convince me to stay. and tell me if my choice is wrong. or tell me about the opportunities I should grab when I go out to work. I need feedback and these feedback will be my light in the future.

My absence of two weeks.

The past two weeks has been one of the most tiring and busy weeks I have faced in my life... well not really but let's take that as puffery and exaggeration for dramatic sake.

If you ask of what it is that made me so busy until it hinders me to blog (a.k.a putting useless crap onto the Internet that no one reads)

I have been clogged up with as advertising exhibition held last Tuesday. we had to take the whole week to prepare, we were passing out flyer's, and repeating the same sentence "come to our advertising exhibition and meet jaziel in the flesh" from 7am until 3pm.

Then it's off to preparing our product mock ups and decorations for the exhibition untill 11.30pm. now imagine this going on for the whole week.

after Tuesday, I..... We (me and my friends) have been so exhausted, that whatever energy that seemed to be in our bodies. are just mere gas waiting to be farted out.

but that's not the end of it.

Wednesday and Thursday were the day for me to prepare for my other two commercial presentation. thank god it was nothing major. and we had little to worry about it.

I was tired and lazy enough to blog. since it may hurt my delicate fingers. yet fear not. I am recharged and ready for battle.... again. keep the wave comin. nothings gonna push me down. I think.

Think different. if you still got the energy to.

The replacement killboards

on Wednesday the loved keyboard named Maggie went into a vegetable state of coma. Dr. Jaziel tried everything in his power to revive his all so beloved Chinese (china made) girl..... friend....

by some ridiculous miraculous grace, Maggie woke up for a day. Spent her final moments with Jaziel; until her very last breath while commenting on a video on Youtube. Goodbye ... Maggie.

Strong hearted Jaziel didn't cry but he went to buy another keyboard named Amy and they live not so happily ever after until Jaziel gets the Mac keyboard that costs RM179. the end.

Video Tutorial sites

you want to learn the ins and outs of Flash, Photoshop or get tips on how to do something neat, but you hate reading tutorial articles and hoped for a video guide. good for you, here''s a few.
If you hate reading video tutorials..... then you are in luck, video tutorials don't require reading

tutvid
http://www.tutvid.com/
it's a free site made by a great great guy who posts out of his kind heart on youtube to help you learn about different design applications. ranging from Dreamweaver to Photoshop to flash.

One interesting is that unlike other videos (paid or free) He doesn't at all sound like some experimental robotic lecturer reading the textbook to a tape recorder with that monotonic tone. His chuckles and the often unplanned mistakes and "ooops", (he does quite a fair number of "Ooops") does keeps me awake. Though the too often mistakes "oooops" he makes can be annoying.

his videos holds your hand like you are a baby and they are easy to understand. they topics are mainly for beginners looking for creative ways to do some neat artwork. although I'm a amateur professional wannabe, the videos do enlighten me on many things.

Go to and Learn
http://www.gotoandlearn.com/

this is a place for the advance flash designers. A.K.A "amateur professional wannabe" yes... the big brothers,

it's provides great.. great.. great tips for flash. and web design. you'll have to have a foundation in "action script programing" language to follow. they have a forum that you can ask questions on. and the videos are downloadable.

don't let yourself down though if you are a Newbie. I visited the site and followed up pretty well when I was a newbie. but that's because My IQ (Irrelevant Quacking) was high.

you could go google and search for other sites. but these tow are my all time favourites... so far

PS: I have been busy shooting commercials and executing an exhibition so I will beezy untill 15th of April.

Rickrolled

this april fools be sure not to get Rickrolled while on the Internet.

I followed this link and got Rick roll'd!

To be Rickrolled is when browsing internet forums, one comes across a link in a thread expecting to find one thing, but ends up at a website which has nothing to do with the topic being discussed in the thread.

g64428d4337.jpg

The name Rick refers to 80s pop singer Rick Astley. This refers to the ebaumsworld epidemic where people linked a "really awesome video" and it turned out to be Rick Astley singing "Never Gonna Give You Up."

Rickrolled is an internet phenomenon which happens when a hapless internet surfer clicks on a link with a promising headline such as, "check out this vid of hot chicks in panties!". However, after clicking the link, you will be brought to the music video of the 80's pop star Rick Astley performing the song "Never Gonna Give You Up".

Summary Answer

Rickrolling is a new trend in online posting, in which a link is apparently provided to a seemingly interesting source, when in fact, it is a link to a Rick Astley video, "Never Gonna Give You Up".

For more information, a video on the phenomenon is available on YouTube:

New Mac keyboards on PC

I broke my keyboard yesterday night. it's the third keyboard I broke since jun 2006. (stupid frets on fire fault)

but the post must go on therefore I spent 2 hours cracking my keyboard up to see what happened to it. thank god it's working now and I no longer have a reason to get the Optimus Maximus keyboard.

On Wednesday I'll give you this super duper awesome wonderfulicious free site that produces video tutorials for beginner designers not like me, but like you....... yes you.

Today it's about keyboards.

One main problem which I always always have with my keyboards are dust and particles (Food) that gets into the keyboard between the keys.

an Idea hit my head yesterday just as I was cleaning up my keyboard from the ancient dust and particles that could be radioactive, forming a new breed of mutated creatures that could jump up and eat my fingers.

the idea that hit my head gave me an idea................. and made a red bump too. Why not I use the Mac's Keyboard and use it for my PC? I always love the Macs keyboard. it's so thin and small and the keys are wide and there are no "cleavage" that stores those ancient dust. Brilliant! I said.

But how?..... can it be done? is it even possible?

I don't know yet. I'm now researching on it and will tell you tomorrow. that is if my keyboard is still working.

Ps: those who disagree with eating while on your computer..... It's Called Multi Tasking!! you obsolete single core Human beings. no insult intended to those obsolete people.

ARRGH The Frets Are On Fire!!!

Here's the situation.
you can't play the guitar and you always wanted to be rock star so you play the air guitar and starts fantasizing yourself on the stage slamming and jamming away to the loud crowd, yelling at the microphone like some maniac who's dying to loose their voice in the morning, thinking on your mind if the crowd will catch you if you jump off the stage or if they will move away due to your smelly armpit.

while you can ridiculously use your power of imagination, you can ridiculously use your keyboard and play it like a guitar.
Frets on fire http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/

yes it's one of those computer games that makes you look geeky.

it's a game that you can play songs on your keyboard by pressing the correct keys at the given time. while strumming with your "enter" key.

you can edit and make your song although it takes some patiences.
it also has a decent (not amazing) supporting community behind this great but not really original open source software.
because it's open sourced it's worth a try. no virus no those freeware scams that claims it's a anti spyware.

supermus Awsomus Optimus Maximus moneyless.

I wanted to do a post about "frets on fire" and how geeky can it be.
but I have delayed this optimus maximus topic long enough so I'm doing it now.

today I'm doing about keyboards. in fact it's not just any keyboard, but probably the most sophisticated keyboard of all. not to mention expensive.

This is a keyboard that allows you to configure any keys to be anything. from the layouts (the way the keys are placed) to the functionality. and there's more.

every single key in the keyboard has a small 48 x48 pixel sized display on it. (imagine a small monitor in every single keys on your keyboard)

it comes with a software that lets you change how each key looks and from the colors to, the font even put a picture in it or even make it blink. it changes what each key does. that means you can move your "q" to the place where the "O" key is placed. get it?

The creator claims that you can play minesweeper with the keyboard. o.O
I find this creation to be very creative. although I have no idea why there are geeks (people) that go crazy about it. to me it's just a very fancy keyboard.

For the price of more than RM2000. I don't know why I would ever pay that much for some fancy "creatively made" keyboard. but it still better than buying.... I mean Burning your money away. with windows Vista.

guitar on the web

for those who plays guitars.

This few days we are probably going to explore the world of playing guitar, or at least pretending to play guitar and the web.

here's something worth sharing.
there's no need to buy those tunning forks and electronic tuners when you need to tune your guitar.

8notes http://www.8notes.com/guitar_tuner/default.asp?sstring=e2

A site where I have been visiting for years whenever I need to have my guitar tuned.
They got loads of stuff available although I never really explore them. As long as it gives me what I want with simple user friendly GUI, Jaziel lives a much happier life.

as for you poor fellas who already own a tunning fork, you can just eat spaghetti with it.
I like mushroom and cheese.

Firefox extentions

It used to be a time where all Internet users uses only one "brand" of Internet browser Internet browser = (the thing you use to surf the Internet) today as the generation become more familiar and attached to the technological world, we may come to know other alternatives besides the ever indescribably horrible Internet explorer. I'm not going to write a long essay on why Internet explorer isn't worth it's price even though it's free. I'm suppose to recommend some of my favourite firefox extensions. (things you can add to your browser to add functionality and extent what it can do) what is firefox you ask? it's another brand of Internet browser that is very popular. among other free downloadable browsers such as Oprea, Safari, and many, many, many more.

it's my top choice here. as an Internet surfer I like to have simple shortcuts to view my most visited sites rather that cluttering my "bookmarks" and searching for the address in the address bar. what it does is it lets you record down the sites you like to put on speed dial to a combination of two keys. just press your ctrl key along with the number (1-0) and go to the site specifed in the number directly. although it takes time and getting used to. it's certainly a great tool to use. it saves me at least 5 seconds each time I use it

thumb strips https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5045
have you ever searched the history of the sites you visited and wondering which site was it? you forgotten the name and you visited so many pages in that particular site you don't even know which one. well thumb strips helps you with that by making thumbnails of the sites you visited be it for research of whatever you want to do with it.

piclens
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5579
it's to me that coolest extensions I have ever used. it's brings a 3d environment if pictures throughout the web to your browser. it's cool looking and as someone who desires for stylish way to surf the Internet. I'm lovin it. it's so cool I don't know how to explain it. it's a revolutionary way of browsing pictures on the Internet. Imagine this. you want to search for a rare and particular image to use. you go to Google, type the described picture and start browsing the little thumbnails. it's too small so you click on the pic and go into the page to get a better view. Nope it's 1st page doesn't have what you want. you then click the small number 2. it's doesn't have it either. so you move on. Until Page 10 you gave up. You go to another site, "photobucket.com" and do the same thing. piclens removed all the hassle of browsing page by page, and replace it all with this 3d scrollable zoomable, and flexible window. you owe it to yourself for not trying it.

stumble upon https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/138
this is an interesting tool that learns the way you surf the net and brings in new sites related to your interest on a click of a button. It may not be as attractive but it's a good way to find those hard to find information. after all the art of surfing the Internet is finding your way in this humongous pool of streaming data with time in mind. it's not the most relevant tool for the average user but in the long run it makes browsing session a special one.

I just don't like the fact that it has a "friendster mini clone" some may disagree, but I just want to use the tool for what it is and nothing more. friendster is Internet social site where people connect and make friends with online which I have yet to understand until today. you can't always take online friends as real friends.
why do I even own a friendster account you ask? so that gadiy lim won't stop bothering me with a friendster account. unfortunately he's bothering me with facebook.

Design the UMPH!

to all who are staying up the whole night trying to finish up a design with an UMPH! while the deadline is coming in 3 days.
after hours of Photoshop and dealing with illustrator and you still can't find the UMPH! in your work.
here are some helpful sites for great vector images and Photoshop brushes.that puts the UMPH! in your work.

vector images for Ai vecteezy-www.vecteezy.com
brushes for Ps brusheezy- www.brusheezy.com
lot's of stuff-http://www.biorust.com

Don't use these for commercial purposes only your assignments or for a friend's blog or whatever you want to do for)
(commercial purposes means any business deals that brings the money to you and not the real owner whom spent so many hours doing it and generously giving it out for free to the public even though they know some of you little cheeky pigs will just copy it and sell it off as a graphic package to other people and enjoy the money for yourself while the owner spends his talented skills helping other people out of his/her kind heart)

Design your dream home

When I was "young", and I am still young. I used to love taking out my math exercise book and drew my very own dream home.

Being 8 and having not know any of the architecture rules at all, I explored creativity that defies the laws of physics. (the upper floor was 2x bigger than than living room cause I always wanted a bigger bedroom)

even today I still crave to draw my dream home and hope so badly that it will come true.

but that's another story.

I was surfing the net and bumped into this very cool open source freeware. (a free software that anyone can take and resell it or do whatever they want with the software)
it lets you design your dream home on the computer in 3d.
it's easy to use and admittedly fun as well

There are some flaws in the interface I would say. for one it lacks power to adjust your views in the 3d window and you can't edit your objects in the 3d window.
Also, the end result, isn't all that beautiful and atmospheric but it's still great for simple drafting.

Here's basically what I did. I started imagining me staying high in the alps, like Adolf Hitler.

Since I'm probably going to be single and unwanted my whole life I'll just have 1 room along with a living room. I don't need a kitchen because bachelors never cooks.

I Always liked houses with big windows. To sit and enjoy the mountain view of the alps., and what's a dream house without a big double sided door right? unfortunately they only have a garage door model available,

I put my furnitures in. it's as easy as clicking and dragging your mouse.
here's what I have
Living room
I have a conner sofa overlooking the big French window, with a fireplace by the side. beside it is a bookshelf for me to read and a piano to replace the kitchen that I considered to built. there's an aquarium behind the sofa, my workstation

Bedroom
increased the size, a queen sized bed overlooking a big window. with an arm chair in front of it, a bookshelf and a TV beside it.

I chose the floor pattern I wanted. and viewed in "3d visit" mode

after 25 mins I was glad and awed at the results. only then I realized I forgotten to place the bathroom.

eteks sweet home 3d is a great and simple software that anyone can learn.
It doesn't require a light speed computer and it also runs on your web browser (Internet explorer or firefox) that means you don't have to download it to use it.
It's not very shining and polishing but it does the execution right. that is the "user experience"
and since that these people are so kind enough to make it open sourced it's always worth a try.
Get it here

Kuler is Cooler

a typical human being name colors like red blue and green. an artist names colors as apple red, ocean blue and lime green. a mathematician just don't even know what colour is.

It helps lot's when you are having trouble choosing colours and matching them together, or you just want to get some inspiration to paint your room, or design a website or Blog. Here's a great site that would help you with anything about color.

Kuler (not Kuller!) is a site by adobe that let's the community of designers to browse, search, and submits different color matches or sets.
it is made with flash so you'll have to update your flash if you have a prehistoric aged computer.

Kuler ----------http://kuler.adobe.com/

Create your own color sets or swatches or whatever you want to call it.

Browse through the swatches that the community created. There are some very good stuff there.
